WSF Instant Update – March 2016
SETTING COURT STANDARDS
Many products come in various shapes and sizes – but that shouldn’t be the case for squash courts! The size of courts are precise and detailed in the WSF Squash Court Specifications, but the playing surfaces need to be appropriate for squash too.

That is why for many years the WSF has had an Accreditation programme in place for products. WSF Accreditation enables manufacturers to give customers an assurance of quality and standard, and it gives confidence to architects or specifier of courts that the materials meet the requirements. Vitally, it also helps to assure that players using the courts have the right environment for their matches, and even reassures centre operators that they have used appropriate materials should there be an accident.

More recently a new element was added in conjunction with PSA and Regions insisting that newly built courts holding WSF, PSA, Regional, Junior Circuit and other events must be built only using Accredited products; thus reassuring players who travel to events that where they are playing on newer courts they are of a really good standard. (This requirement does not extend to courts built before 2013, which are only required to be built to specification and of suitable playing characteristics). Compliant courts can be WSF Registered, and so allowable for these events.

To reinforce the push to ensure that the stock of new and replacement courts are of as high a quality as possible WSF has now also introduced WSF Accredited Company status. This is open to any company that can demonstrate relevant experience and expertise in providing squash courts – using only WSF Accredited Products. They will need to offer a five year guarantee covering both materials and workmanship, use experienced and qualified court installers and sub-contractors and fulfil other terms that provide both assurance and reassurance. Registration can only take place if the court has been constructed by an Accredited Company or if it is endorsed by the WSF.

Taken together, the sport, the players and the quality products and constructors are all supported.

WSF ACCREDITATION & COURT REGISTRATION
1 WSF Accredited Products – a general outline of the system of court components and material Accreditation 2 WSF Court Registration – the Registration process 3 WSF Accredited Companies – the requirements for companies
1. WSF ACCREDITED PRODUCTS
Manufacturers of Squash court materials may apply to the WSF to have their products inspected and, if they meet certain criteria, confirmed as WSF Accredited Products. All such products may then carry the WSF Accreditation logo on their promotional materials, and in promotion.
WHY ACCREDITATION?
For manufacturers: Accreditation enables the manufacturer to give customers an assurance of quality and standard which comes from an independent authority, known and respected throughout the world. It reassures the architect or specifier of courts that the materials meet the requirements.
Products bearing the WSF Accredited Product mark have an immediate advantage over their competitors. Non-Accredited products may be perfectly good quality and meet specification but….. can they easily prove it?
For constructors: All those selling Squash equipment and materials are assured that the product they are handling meets the specifications and standards set for the sport.
For the sport: The Accreditation scheme enables the WSF to control the development of court components and materials to ensure that the needs of the sport are served in the best possible way. As a non-profit making body the sole concern of the WSF is the wellbeing and development of Squash and its Accreditation system ensures that undesirable or unsafe products can be identified by all those within the sport.
2. WSF ACCREDITED COMPANIES
Any company that can demonstrate relevant experience and expertise in providing squash courts – using only WSF Accredited Products – is eligible to apply to become a WSF Accredited Company.
WSF Accredited Companies will be required to undertake to abide by terms including the following:
a) Provide a five-year guarantee that covers both materials and workmanship.
b) Undertake to notify the WSF of any changes to the composition or specifications of an Accredited Product; paying for re-inspection where necessary when this occurs.
c) Ensure that they have and maintain the capability to provide complete courts using only Accredited Products.
d) Undertake to notify the WSF of all courts that they have built, together with confirmation of the Accredited Products used.
e) If courts are constructed using only Accredited Products then they will be considered compliant and the Accredited Company will be given the right to register that court for competition play, subject to the payment of the relevant registration fee.
f) It is compulsory for Accredited Companies to only use only Accredited Products if Registration is required.
3. WSF COURT REGISTRATION
WSF Court Registration is offered where the essential components of the complete court i.e. four walls, floor, tin and lighting, are separately or collectively Accredited.
Courts built by a WSF Accredited Company may be Registered by the company or the court owners at any time before, during or after the building process, subject to the payment of the Registration fees.
Courts using WSF Accredited Products but not built by an Accredited Company can be Registered subject to inspection. Registration is optional.
Only WSF Registered courts will be published in the Worldwide Directory and may be used for hosting WSF World, Regional, World Junior Circuit, PSA and other recognised events. (This specification is not applicable for courts in existence before 2013, where normal adherence to WSF specifications will apply).
